How to Prioritize Holistic Self-Care as a Female Entrepreneur

Prioritizing Self-Care


Self-Care is how you tend to yourself holistically as a woman, recognizing that you are a body, mind, and soul. Being an entrepreneur complicates things as you’re doing this juggling act of domestic chores and responsibilities and wearing the many hats of an entrepreneur.

Self-Care needs to meet your unique personality. One woman’s self-care practice may look entirely different than mine or yours, but yet it works. There is no “one-size-fits-all” self-care practice. You have to know what works for you and go with it. Try it on. You can always change it later.

Physical Self-Care Practices


Movement is good for everyone.  But what do you really enjoy? Is it yoga, running, strolling with your partner or dog, stretching, weight lifting, going to a gym, working out at home to a youtube video (that’s my favorite), working in your garden, doing the stairs, mowing the lawn, etc. The options are limitless.

The main thing is that you do some sort of movement and start now, not later. In addition to working out 3 days per week, I do these things called Tibetan Yoga rites daily to keep the chakras moving for health and longevity.  This works for me.  Don’t believe that your physical practice needs to look like mine or anyone’s.

Emotional Self-Care Practices

You gotta feel it to heal it.  As busy entrepreneurs, we tend to be on the go A LOT.  Being so busy can be a distraction from checking in with your feelings because we see feelings as messy and inconvenient.

Like physical movement, you want to choose a way to release emotions in a way that feels right to you.  If emotions aren’t released, they get stuck in the body and create dis-ease or illness over time.
Do any of these ideas sound good:  journaling, tapping using emotional freedom techniques (my favorite which I do 5 minutes daily), screaming/hitting a pillow, hitting a punching bag, walking in nature, talking with a trusted friend who won’t advise you but listen, etc.

Mental Self-Care Practices

To be healthy mentally, I believe the key is to become willing to examine your beliefs about your life. What do you believe about your business–is it a constant struggle? Do you believe in lack or prosperity? Do you believe that life is supporting you, or are you on alert to be attacked?
Beliefs aren’t set in stone. They are flexible, because your mind is neuroplastic, meaning it can be changed. New neural pathways CAN be created in a relatively short time, especially using subconscious rewiring techniques, like hypnosis, tapping, the healing codes, etc.

Spiritual Self-Care Practices

This may be the most important practice of all. Do you feel alone and disconnected in the Universe? Or do you feel that you are part of something bigger? Does an invisible force have your back? This doesn’t need to be religious but could be energetic.

If you’re like most humans, myself included, you’re seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. What if this paradigm has been leading you down a painful path?
What if a sound spiritual practice entailed you getting comfortable in your own pain so that you could sit with others in theirs?  I’ve been a notorious fixer and problem solver, and part of the reason for this is that I’ve been uncomfortable seeing others suffer. So instead of being with them in their pain, I’ve closed my heart and put up my guard.  This doesn’t really protect me though. It separates me from others.
I highly recommend this book called When Things Fall Apart.

The Role of Self-Care in Enhancing Work Performance


Can you see how if you took care of yourself physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually that you’d feel much more stable and secure in this life.

By knowing who you are, you’d be able to lead others much more effectively. You wouldn’t be second-guessing yourself all of the time. You’d speak up when you felt called to. Thus, you’d gain their respect much more readily.

The Danger of Seeking Self-Care Rigidly

The great irony of life is that you don’t want to SEEK self-care, security, pleasure, love, wealth, health, or anything with too tight of a grasp. When we require a certain outcome for us to be OK, it tends to elude us.
If you want to be in control, you have to be OK with being out of control. If you want wealth, you need to be OK with being broke. If you want people to love you, you have to be OK if they don’t. If you want to be thin, you need to be OK with being fat.
If you want to be fully alive, you need to be OK with death.  Sorry if I’m getting too deep on you–but this is me. It’s how I roll. I warned ya!



It’s important to take care of yourself in a way that is customized to your life and tastes. No matter what, you are a whole being. So make sure to address the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of yourself. Slowing down for self-care will actually help you speed up at work, be more productive AND more effective.

Lastly, remember to do self-care in a way that gives you relief, relaxation and joy. You can do this by not holding on too tightly to any outcome.
